Met Eireann has said that, there may not be as much snow tonight as first thought. However some areas will experience up to 5cm of Snow.
It is planned that 1,400km of motorways, commuter routes and bus routes in Dublin will be gritted overnight. 35 gritters will clear the roads in Dublin
Seventy Defence Forces personnel have been deployed in a range of taskings following requests from the Civil Autorities due to the severe weather conditions. There are 450 personnel on notice to move in barracks around the country and this figure can be rapidly increased should further support be required.
Very cold again with ice persisting in many areas. Some patches of freezing fog also. After a sunny start generally, snow showers will spread from the east during the day. Highest temperatures of -3 to +3 degrees.
Weekend
The wintry cold spell will continue for the foreseeable future. Apart from a few snow showers near east and south coasts, Saturday night will be dry, but very cold with severe frost and ice. Sunday will be cold and mostly cloudy with occasional sleet and snow showers in the south and east, giving accumulations in places.
